5 Healthy Christmas Treats Recipes

Celebrating the holidays is just a perfect way to finish the year, and being with family and friends in a festive setting is the perfect way to eat yummy and indulgent Christmas treats. There is an abundance of Christmas treats during the season, and it is a challenge to be healthy when you’re surrounded with rich and delicious food. In fact, the NHS has some guidelines on how to have a healthy Christmas.

But being a health buff does not stop me from enjoying Christmas treats, especially now that I have discovered and tried these delicious and healthy Christmas treats recipes:

Dark Chocolate Peppermint Truffles

This rich chocolate indulgence may seem calorie-laden, but it is actually just 27 calories! I know, I was pretty surprised myself when I first saw the recipe. And it’s very easy to prepare and tastes as good as it sounds.The best thing about this is that it is dairy-free! The proportion I prepared is good for 16 truffles,so perfect for parties or gift-giving.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • ½ cup unsweetened apple sauce
  • 3 tablespoons honey or molasses
  • ½ teaspoon peppermint extract

Preparation

  1. Use a medium bowl to mix all the ingredients together.
  2. Chill the mixed ingredients for at least 30 minutes.And it is ideal to chill the ingredients as long as possible.
  3. Scoop using a tablespoon. And make sure that it is a heaping tablespoon. Then roll the mixture into a ball and place it on wax paper or muffin paper liners.
  4. Refrigerate before serving.

Rocky Road Brownies

As you can probably tell, I am a huge chocolate lover. When I saw the recipe for Rocky Road Brownies, I just couldn’t resist it. This recipe has less fat but has lots of chunky nuts and gooey marshmallows, which I love.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup and 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • Four ½ tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 large egg whites
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ¼ cups Stevia
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 8 regular-size marshmallows
  • 2/3 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/3 cup chopped bittersweet chocolate

Preparation

  1. Use an 8-inch square baking pan and line the bottom and sides of it with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Get medium saucepan and melt the butter. And remove from the heat and mix cocoa, then the Stevia. The mixture should now look like very dark brown sugar.
  4. Add eggs, egg whites, and vanilla. Then stir in the flour mixture and mix briskly.
  5. Scrape the batter into the pan, and spreading it evenly.
  6. Cover the pan and refrigerate for up to 12 hours.
  7. 30 minutes before baking, then remove the mixture from the refrigerator.
  8. Using an oiled knife, slice the marshmallows into quarters. Distribute them into the batter, and pressing them in. Place the nuts and chopped chocolate around the marshmallows.
  9. Bake the brownies for 20 to 35 minutes, until they’re golden brown. Use the toothpick test to check if they’re ready.
  10. Let them cool on a wire rack for 2 hours before transferring to a cutting board. Makes 16 brownies.

Pumpkin Pie

I just love pumpkin desserts, and my ultimate favorite is pumpkin pie. This easy-to-prepare pie uses graham crackers instead of processed white flour. If you love spice in dessert like me, you will enjoy this tasty pie. This is a perfect healthy addition to the holiday table.

Ingredients

  • 1 can pumpkin purée
  • 1 ¼ cups graham cracker crumbs
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • ¾ cup coconut milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¾ cup light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Use a medium bowl to mix the graham cracker crumbs, sugar, and oil. Do this until it is evenly moistened. Then press the mixture in the bottom and sides of a 9-inch pie plate.
  3. Bake the mixture for about 12to 15 minutes, until it is golden brown and crisp. Let it cool on a wire rack.
  4. In a big bowl, whisk pumpkin, coconut milk, eggs, brown sugar, salt and the spices. Then pour the mixture onto the baked crust.
  5. Bake for about 45 to 60 minutes, or until it is set and the crust is brown.
  6. Let it cool on a wire rack.
  7. Slice before serving. Optional: place a small dollop of whipped cream on top.

Popcorn and Nutella Balls

This is an easy treat to make even a child can do it. In fact I allowed my friend’s seven-year old son to help me when I prepared this recipe last time. Who doesn’t love popcorn and Nutella? Put them together and you’ve got magic!

Ingredients

  • 1 bag plain microwaveable popcorn
  • ¼ cup light corn syrup
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoon peanut butter
  • 1 tablespoon Nutella
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ teaspoon milk

Preparation

  1. Lay a sheet of wax paper on a flat, then dry and clean surface.
  2. Combine the corn syrup, sugar, salt and peanut butter in a large pot and cook over low heat for 4 to 6 minutes
  3. .Stir in the cooked microwave popcorn and make sure that they are completely coated.
  4. Get 2-3 tablespoons of popcorn and shape into balls. Place them on the wax paper.
  5. Mix the nutella and milk in a small bowl. And pour over the popcorn balls. Let it cool and serve.

Cranberry and Nut Chocolate Chip Cookies

No holiday treat list is complete without cookies, and I found the perfect low-calorie recipe. This is a big hit with my family and friends.

Ingredients

For the Cinnamon-Honey Green Tea Syrup:

  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup whole wheat flour
  • 5 tablespoons softened butter
  • ¾ cup regular oats
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 large egg white
  • ¼ cup dried cranberries
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 ½ tablespoons chocolate mini-chips
  • 2 ½ tablespoons chopped walnuts
  • ¾ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • Cooking spray

Preparation

  1. Spoon flour into measuring cups and level with a knife. Combine the flour, oats, baking powder, and the baking soda, salt, cranberries, walnuts, and mini-chips in a bowl.
  2. Mix sugar and butter in a bowl. Then beat it with a mixer until light and fluffy. Add honey, vanilla, egg, and egg white. Beat it well.
  3. Add flour and sugar mixture and blend well at low speed. Then cover and refrigerate for up to 8 hours.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  5. Drop the batter using a tablespoon onto the baking sheet coated with cooking spray. And bake for 10 minutes. Then cool for 2 minutes on wire racks.
